Admissions Policy

 

PEARSE COLLEGE ADMISSIONS POLICY

Admission to a particular course in Pearse College is subject to places being available and is governed by three principles:

  1. That participation will contribute positively to the course and in no way infringe upon the opportunities or rights of other students or staff
  2. That, in the professional judgement of the College Authority, the student, because of previous education / work experience, is considered likely to benefit from attendance
  3. That, in the professional judgement of the College Authority and following an interview, the student is suitable for a course

ADMISSIONS / ENROLMENT

Application forms are available on request. Interviews take place 3 times during the year; February/March, May and September.

  • Applications are accepted for the one year Junior Certificate from students aged 17 or over on 1st September on the year of application
  • The applicant’s birth certificate (or passport or driving licence) is required if not presenting with a Junior Certificate printout
  • Parents/Guardians of students under 18 are required to attend the interview
  • Applications are accepted for the two year Leaving Certificate from students aged 18 or over on 1st September on the year of application
  • The applicant’s birth certificate (or passport or driving licence) is required if not presenting with a Leaving Certificate printout
  • References and previous exam results will be required from applicants, especially if transferring from another school or college. This includes Leaving Certificate, FETAC and other relevant results if appropriate.
  • Applicants may be required to sit an aptitude test
  • Applications are not usually accepted after September 30th
  • Applicants to the Repeat Leaving Certificate class are required to demonstrate that they have successfully completed the Leaving Certificate course and must present a copy of their Leaving Certificate results
  • Sometimes students may be referred to other courses in the college
  • Students with disabilities or special needs are encouraged to apply and to declare special needs at time of application
  • Applicants have the right to appeal to the College Board of Management if refused admission
  • An Applicant is NOT considered to be a student in Pearse College of Further Educations until the Registration process is complete

  • Registration charges are not refundable unless you are granted a VTOS place
  • Fees transfer within CDETB colleges
  • There is a full fee refund if courses do not start
