Adult Leaving Certificate

This two year Adult Leaving Certificate course is an ideal opportunity for you to complete your second level education. It can also assist your entry to University, Institutes of Technology or Post Leaving cert courses.

  • Design and Communication Graphics
  • Home Economics

Students should be aware that some subject combinations may not be possible. Further details and subject choice options will be discussed during the interview.

How do I get in?

In order to qualify for the Adult Leaving Certificate course:

  • Applicants must be 18 years old on 1 September of the year of entry.
  • No previous academic records are necessary.
  • An interview is compulsory.
  • International students must sit English language and Mathematics tests unless previous students of the college.
How long is the course?

It is carried out over a two year period from September to May. Classes are held Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 4.00 pm - timetables vary.

What do I get out of it?

On successfully completing the exam you will receive the Leaving Certificate from the Department of Education and Science.

Where can I go from here?

Many students use the Leaving Certificate to gain employment or to go on to further study. The Adult Leaving Certificate course assists entry to the Science and Business area as well as the Arts / Humanities at third level. It is not only recognized in this country but it is also very highly regarded in many other countries as a qualification for entry into third level colleges. Finally, it is especially useful for mature students embarking on a total career change.
