Soccer Coaching and Gym Instruction

Our Soccer Coaching and Gym Instruction Course is about developing the skills and knowledge needed to become coaches, referees, managers and other key personnel skills for working with Junior Soccer teams. The FAI’s Kickstart 1 and Kickstart 2 programmes form part of the course which will provide students with the foundation for attaining the higher FAI coaching badges. The course has practical modules with the emphasis on obtaining a gym instructor qualification from ITEC which is internationally recognised and also provides the student with further education and workplace opportunities. There are also several theory based modules which require students to gain a deeper understanding of the various elements in the Leisure industry.

How do I get in?

Experience and interest in soccer is essential. The student will be required to perform a practical interview on soccer competencies and a formal interview with the course co-ordinator. Successful completion of the Leaving Certificate is desirable but not essential.

How long is the course?

Our Soccer Coaching and Gym Instruction course runs one year full time from September to May. Students can be timetabled from Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

What do I get out of it?

This Soccer Coaching and Gym Instruction course is the first step on a ladder that will lead to a career in soccer.

Upon completion of our Soccer Coaching and Gym Instruction course students will have the opportunity to apply to colleges of Further Education or Institutes of Technology.

Where can I go from here?

This course is suitable for learners who intend to continue their studies in a third level educational institute. Successful graduates, through the Higher Education Links Scheme, may work towards a diploma or degree in nutrition, science or related areas. It also serves as a useful stepping stone to a career in health care or catering.
